Interview: Olivier Flinterman

Every few weeks we will interview a member of EDS to get insight into the world of different EDS dancers. The first one to be questionned is Olivier, the chairman of EDS. He is 24 years old, originally from Nieuwegein and came to Rotterdam about 5 years ago to study Economics. It’s about time that he finishes his bachelor but apart from that he really enjoys being chairman of EDS and being part of the EDS family.

How long have you been dancing?
I have been dancing salsa for almost 2 years now, I started the speed course in 2014!

How did you join EDS?
Well, I went on my exchange to Urugya, so I decided I wanted to get in the vibe beforehand. That’s when I started taking salsa classes at EDS.

Why did you want to become chairman?
In my opinion there were a couple of things that could be improved and I wanted to spread the EDS family feeling. I also thought it was interesting to lead other people. The chairman function I thought was best suited for me out of all functions.

What can we expect from you as a chairman this year?
An EDS party, a new website. I will oversee and arrange a lot of things from the background. The lessons are the place where everybody meets, but you must all know that you can always come to me, inside but also outside the lessons.

What do you like most about your function?
Delegating (with a grin on his face) and the money matters.

What is in your opinion the biggest challenge for EDS?
To keep growing without losing the bond. We don’t want things to get distanced, the line has to be kept short. You should be able to step up to the chairman for a beer but also for a complaint. A big challenge as well is keeping members committed to EDS after graduation.

What are you looking forward to the most?
I’m really looking forward to the party, the shows that will and have to be given. And of course the free dance evenings and activities. And personally to ever Friday.

Who do you nominate for the next interview?
Emiel Suzuki, to many he is still unknown, but behind the curtains he is organizing a lot. It’s very interesting to find out some things about him.

I hope everybody is enjoying it all, and that you can always come to me and the rest of the board with questions, comments, complaints but definitely also positive reactions. We will see you in the lessons!
